Is this site powered by Tumblr? No.

I get asked this question quite often, my site is not powered by Tumblr, it never has been and probably never will be. Don’t get me wrong, I like Tumblr and I love the idea behind it, but it is, as they say, more like a scrapbook.

I am a Textpattern user through-and-through, I use it everywhere and I have been using it here since ’04.

A couple of reasons why I am not using Tumblr? I like comments, I would prefer not to use a third party website to update my site, I can’t import previous articles, I can have unlimited categories here and not be limited with the few that are available with the Tumblr service. To name a few.

I’m sure someone will retort with a whole bunch of great reasons to why I should be using Tumblr but I just don’t think its right for my site. I prefer the flexibility and security of running everything within Textpattern and the ability to change and customise my sites every need.

To each his own. I applaud you for keeping a tumblelog in Textpattern. I tried and I failed.

Fact is, I’m a big fan of tumblelogging. I love it, not just Tumblr. Currently I think Tumblr is the best tumblelog engine for most people, but obviously not everyone can be most people.

Happy holidays.

Ah yes, I never really emphasised the difference between tumblelogging and the tumblr service.

Thanks for your thoughts though Cam! :)
