Twitter uptime causing havoc

John Gruber writes in his latest posting, Some of the Tweets All of the Time vs. All of the Tweets Some of the Time

Obviously, the ideal case is for Twitter to be able to handle all tweets all the time, and I’m sure that’s their goal. But in the meantime, I much preferred the old Twitter. The old way, you at least knew instantly what the deal was. Twitter was up, or Twitter was down. If it was up, you could pretty much count on your tweets working. Now, though, you can’t count on anything.

Unfortunately this is true, previously, when Twitter was hosted with Joyent there was a substantial amount of downtime, which was a pain but nothing quite like the pain of Twitter being online, but intermittently messages are disappearing. In this very unique case, offline is definitely better than online-with-problems.
