Always be aware of Receiving Payments with PayPal

Cara Williams wrote about this today in a Freelance Switch article; Freelancers Beware of Receiving Payments via Credit Card through PayPal where Cara talks about an unfortunate situation where she was paid through PayPal via a Credit Card for work that her client then later disputed and PayPal consequently removed the funds.

I’ve heard many a bad story about PayPal but have never once had an issue with them, it has always been my rule of thumb to leave little to no balance in my account in case for whatever reasons PayPal decide to close my account, or like in Cara’s case remove existing funds. I felt it important to point this out after publishing my Accept PayPal Payments from your site in style article and script.

You highlight an interesting issue here. PayPal rightfully or wrongfully is geared towards the buyer rather than the seller.

I think they [PayPal] should do some work to better serve sellers that use PayPal for invoicing etc.

The system has saved me a few times but has also stung me once.
